Samsung has started working on the Android 16-based One UI 8.5 interface. It is stated that the new version will be available with the Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to be introduced at the beginning of 2026. With this interface, the company is returning to its previously abandoned “.5” version policy.
One UI 8.5 update will be available
Samsung, which has only been progressing with small interim updates after the One UI 6.1 and 7.0 versions, is working on a more comprehensive update this time. However, there is currently no official statement on what innovations One UI 8.5 will include.
It is stated that both design and functional changes will be made to the interface. Apple’s transition to the new design language called Liquid Glass with iOS 26 is shown as an important part of these changes. Samsung is expected to take a similar approach.
The new interface is planned to be offered as a full package to the Galaxy S25 series. It is stated that only some limited features will be included in the previously released Galaxy S24, S23 and S22 series. Since no major changes are expected in terms of hardware in the Galaxy S26 series, this step on the software side highlights improvements in user experience.
January 2026 is indicated for the introduction of the Galaxy S26. One UI 8.5 is also planned to be announced at the same event. There are expectations that this new software, which the company is in the development process, will contain more significant changes compared to previous versions.
